Alexander Balandin

Research: Semiconductor materials, nanostructures and devices. Research topics include phonon - electron transport in nanostructures, thermal management of nanoelectronic devices, noise phenomena, GaN-related materials and devices, thermoelectric materials, spintronics and quantum computing.

Prior to joining UCR Dr. Balandin worked as a Research Engineer in UCLA from 1997 till 1999. Currently, he is a leader of the Nano-Device Laboratory (NDL), which consists of seven graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. Dr. Balandin is a recipient of the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Young Investigator Award (2002), NSF Faculty Early CAREER Award (2001), UC Regents’ Faculty Award (2000), and Merrill Lynch Award for “commercially valuable engineering research” (1998).
